About the Comic

Little Dude is the result of a brainstorming session while watching George Shrinks on PBS (yes, I still watch kid's shows sometimes--they make the best background for studying to). The all important question became "What would it be like to be six inches tall...AND IN COLLEGE!?"

And so, Little Dude is born. The art used for him originally was meant for just a random dude, maybe a recurring background character in something, I donno. But I thought, "Hey, if I make him super-short, he'd be interesting!" So, I did. And Sam is the result.

Now, the WHY is, I think, more interesting than the HOW in this case. Why did Little Dude come into existance? Was I looking to do a webcomic? Nope. I was doing a huge class project in four days, idiot that I am. I'd procrastinated since day one and it did not pay off at all. That's not true, it's how Little Dude was born. Originally, the 24 page zine was going to be a self-contained story about a girl named Cassie who died and went to the spirit world. It wasn't working for me. I didn't like it. So, I did what every good college kid does and went on to do something more fun. :D Except, in this case, it worked well for me. The first several pages of Little Dude: The Webcomic are the pages from the zine. I redid everything after scanning them. And the zine was in black and white, so I added color--I'm new to coloring comics the way I'm free to with Little Dude, so I'm having a blast learning all about it and such. Great for trial-and-error work. I'm also typing in the captions because my handwriting sucks, and I know what a turn-off it is to read a webcomic that you have to glare at for a while to be able to understand, so I'm making the trade-off for a less organic comic (which I think is more attractive and more personal) to a legible comic.

Go read the about the author section for more information and angst about the stress of doing qabout 18 pages of a comic in 4 days, from conception to zine format...
